Fluorocarbon

Chemical Name: Fluorocarbon

Common Names: Viton™

ASTM D1418: FKM

ASTM D2000 / SAE J200: HK

ISO/DIN 1629: FPM

Fluorocarbon combines the widest range of chemical resistance with the most advantageous high temperature properties. As the leading material requested for hoses, O-rings, gaskets, and fuel system seals, it is relied upon heavily to extend the lifespan of a rubber molded component far beyond the capabilities of other materials.

FKM can perform reliably with prolonged exposure to gasoline, as well as the corrosive environment of down-hole drilling operations. Aircraft engine seals are also frequently made from this material.

Temperature range

-20°C ~ 200°C / -4°F ~ 392°F

Transient up to 230 °C / 445°F

Good resistance in

Mineral oils and greases (including with most additives), fuels as well as aliphatic and aromatic hydro-carbons, some flame retardant hydraulic fluids and synthetic aeroplane engine oils.

Not resistance in

Polar solvents and ketones, flame retardant hydraulic fluids, type: Skydrol, brake fluid on a glycol ether base.
